Love that you found a benevolent postman, a friend, someone who knows how to make life easier without having to do much at all. It's really quite remarkable, isn't it, how little it takes to make a world of difference.

Also, you look awfully cute, despite the sticky-seam-compound situation!

Could all that be why the British Navy christened their ships with names such as Indefatigable? Resolute? Defiant? Revenge? Hazardous? Arrogant? Invincible?

This is why I enjoy your writing so much. Your prose is always thoughtful and layered, stirring new thoughts and old memories; and a curiosity to explore further.

As it is a Greek goddess that you are discussing, I first searched for an image and came upon her standing on a small rock island, presumably in the middle of a sea. I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for your story (because as Capt. Ron says, “If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen out there.”)

You got me here - - “… but might wait generations to avenge a crime.” I cannot imagine a better metaphor to describe the building and care of wooden boats. “Ah, a God with a long memory …”

In most depictions, but not all, Nemesis’ justice is blind, and the scales balanced, the reward for a job well done. And yet, living our lives with the best of intentions, generational trauma occasionally creeps up on us (perhaps a Teredo worm or two) and we must make penance for the past. And in others, her eyes are wide open, a considered accounting of our own transgressions and when they will come due.

Our modern God balances transgressions with forgiveness and redemption. And often forgiving ourselves (past and present) is part and parcel to the hard labor of redemption.

You’ve made your peace with Steadfast and committed to her future. Having experienced the seemingly never ending, day to day challenges of building a boat, I am encouraged that your thoughts and writing have been drawn to Nemesis, rather than Sisyphus.

Cheers to another week with your labor of love!

I'm sure you can find a spot less prone to wrinkling, if you wish. 🐢 That said, I'm still tattoo free. :)
